Polished Concrete Flooring for Toowoomba Commercial Projects

Polished concrete is the hardest-wearing, lowest-maintenance floor you can put on a commercial slab. There’s no coating to wear through, no adhesives, and nothing to replace. You get a densified, dust-free concrete surface that handles foot traffic, trolleys and forklifts for decades.

We’ve helped Queensland’s largest commercial builders achieve their timelines and budgets on polished concrete projects. We now bring that experience to Toowoomba’s new builds, fit-outs and refurbishments.

Where Polished Concrete Works

  • Retail and showrooms: a clean, reflective finish that’s easy to maintain under heavy foot traffic.
  • Warehouses and distribution centres: a densified, dust-free floor for racking and forklift areas.
  • Offices and commercial fit-outs: an exposed concrete finish without the upkeep of carpet or vinyl.
  • Hospitality and venues: hone and seal for cafés, bars, beer gardens and function spaces.
  • Education and community buildings: durable floors with low whole-of-life cost.
  • Industrial facilities: an “industrial finish” with no aggregate exposure for a hard, practical floor.

How is polished concrete created?

The process of polishing concrete involves grinding the surface of the concrete with progressively finer diamond-abrasive tools.

This process removes surface imperfections and reveals the natural aggregate in the concrete.

After grinding, the surface is polished using progressively finer diamond polishing pads and grouting any cracks and fine holes.

The final step involves applying a concrete densifier and finisher to the surface to improve the durability and stain resistance of the concrete.

Option 1

FULL MECHANICAL POLISH

A full mechanical polish is true polished concrete. We grind the slab with progressively finer diamond tooling, grout the pinholes and surface cracks, and treat it with a densifier that hardens the concrete surface. We then polish it to the sheen you want.

There’s no topical coating, so there’s nothing to wear away. The floor needs no recoating, only a rebuff every 10–15 years if it has dulled. It costs more upfront than hone and seal, but it’s the cheaper floor over the life of the building.

Option 2

HONE & SEAL

Hone and seal gives you the look of polished concrete at a lower upfront cost. We grind the slab to the exposure you want, then apply a penetrating or topical sealer in a matte, satin or gloss finish.

Because the sealer sits on the surface, it wears faster in high-traffic areas. Expect to reseal every 5–7 years, depending on traffic and the sealer used. It suits hospitality, retail and budget-sensitive fit-outs where resealing down the track is acceptable.

Aggregate Exposure and Finish Options

Exposure: Nil (industrial finish), minimal random exposure, or full stone exposure.

Sheen: Matte, semi-gloss or high gloss.

The stone you see comes from the concrete supplier’s batching plant, not from us. Mixes vary between suppliers and regions, so a Toowoomba slab won’t necessarily look like one poured in Brisbane.

If the finish matters, talk to us before the pour.

Talk to Us Before the Pour

The best polished concrete floors are planned before the concrete truck arrives. For new builds, early involvement lets us advise on:

  • concrete mix and aggregate selection
  • finishing and curing requirements for your chosen exposure level
  • protecting the slab from trades during construction
  • joint layout and detailing.

An industrial nil-exposure finish in particular depends on how the slab is placed and finished. Get us in early and we’ll make sure the result matches the design.

Polishing Existing Concrete in Toowoomba

Refurbishing an existing building? Existing slabs can often be polished or honed and sealed if they’re in reasonable condition.

We can remove existing carpet, tiles, vinyl and timber, including the adhesives and toppings underneath, then grind, repair and finish the slab. Floor removal is quoted separately.
